Vazhaipoo Adai is a new version of Adai for me. I came to know about this through a colleague of mine at work. During some random discussion about food over lunch, she mentioned this to me. I was excited about Vazhaipoo Adai, as Vazhaipoo is very nutritious but not liked by all in my family, but in this recipe I can add as much as I want and make regular Paruppu Adai for others. This time I gave this adai to my son saying it to be onion adai and believe me there was no difference in taste. The Vazhaipoo blends with the batter so well. You can neither see the flower separately nor there is any difference in taste. It is a must try for every women.
I tried it instantly and it came out very well. I make it for my husband and me alone and for rest of the family I make Paruppu adai. Vazhaipoo is loaded with soluable fiber and is very good for health. It has immense benefit for women as it has ability to restore reproductive health of women. Vazhaipoo is regarded as superfood for women. You can read my post on cleaning banana flower for instructions on cleaning Vazahipoo.
Here is a simple recipe of Vazhaipoo Adai.
- 1 Cup Banana blossom/Vazhai poo/Banana flower Chopeed finely
- 2 Tbsp Curry leaves Chopped
- 2 Tbsp Coriander leaves Chopped
- 1 Tbsp Ginger grated
- 2 Cup Adai batter
- 2 Tbsp Oil
- 1/4 Tsp Salt
Mix chopped Vazhai poo, curry leaves, coriander leaves and ginger. As Adai batter already has salt, add only 1/4 Tsp of salt to adjust to the newly added chopped items. Mix well to a pouring and spreadable consistency.
Spread a layer of adai in the tawa. Drip oil on the sides till bottom side is cooked well and turns golden brown. Once done, flip on the other side and reduce flame to low. Cook in low flame till other side also turns golden brown.
*This Adai has to be spread thin so that vazhaipoo gets cooked in the heat. Do not make it like paruppu adai.
*Vazhaipoo to batter ratio should be maximum of 1:2. Maximum ratio would be 1:1.5, beyond which you will not be able to spread thin.

I had this with Jagerry and Aviyal as my son likes Aviyal the most with Adai.
