In my part of the world, Soup defaults to Tomato soup. It is a versatile starter and a good appetizer. As part of my daily soup regime, this soup finds its place uniquely. My morning times are very precious and generally very stressed. Both my sons have to leave to their school before 8AM. I need to get their breakfast done and pack their lunch box too, besides packing mine. I limit myself to dishes that I can make quickly. Ever since I started to give my family soup in the morning, I should say that I had become very innovative. As you can see in the recipe, easily 100-150 grams of Tomato can be included in the diet by this soup. Here is the version that I make. Do try this and let me know your feedback.

a. There are two types of tomatoes available in Chennai. One is the oval shaped variety. This variety, called Bangalore tomato, has very little water and seeds in it. I do not strain if I use this variety. If I use the other round variety, called “Country Tomato”, I strain the pulp. The residue I use in other item that I cook.
b. Adding beetroot wedge gives the blood red color to the soup. You can add it if you have it handy.
c. You can add a wedge of garlic to the tomatoes while cooking. It adds distinct aroma to the dish.
d. You can add seasoning to the dish as per your need. But I find this soup itself too good to start a day with.
e. Though a hot piping soup is more welcome, in the rush morning hours, I add only normal water so that children can have it quickly.
